Culture & Flavors: Jollof Day

The Africa Without Borders (AWB) family successfully came together around a culinary program dedicated to Jollof Rice, a symbol of conviviality and cultural sharing. As an AWB family, we successfully organized our culinary program around Jollof Rice. This friendly and warm meeting, organized after the exam period, aimed to bring students together around one of the most emblematic and appreciated dishes of West African cuisine: Jollof Rice. Originating from West Africa, and more particularly from the Senegambian region, Jollof Rice is prepared with rice, tomatoes, onions and various spices. It is today considered a shared cultural heritage, available in different forms in many African countries. As such, Jollof Rice is not limited to a culinary tradition, but also constitutes a strong symbol of sharing, conviviality and African cultural diversity. As part of the program, fun games were offered to participants, and Ivory Coast's victory at the 2024 Africa Cup of Nations (CAN) was celebrated collectively in a festive atmosphere. After an intensive academic period, students had the opportunity to relax and socialize. The event encouraged intercultural exchanges between AWB members from different countries, creating an atmosphere that was both warm and unifying. Organized at the end of the exams, this meeting aimed to allow students to get together, relieve pressure, strengthen the feeling of community belonging and consolidate the spirit of solidarity within the AWB family. Through shared moments, music, discussions and common celebrations, the program left participants with a rich and positive collective memory.
