AWB at the PRAFRICA Forum

Africa Without Borders participated as a partner institution in the PRAFRICA Forum organized by the Platform for Reflection on Africa. The forum, which was held under the theme “African solutions to Africa’s contemporary challenges”, examined in a multidimensional manner the political, economic and social issues facing the continent. This meeting constituted an important space for strategic reflection mobilizing academics, researchers, association leaders and African actors in the diaspora. During the forum, several essential themes were explored, notably sub-regional integration in Africa, security and economic challenges, the place of the continent in the international system and the perspectives offered by new technologies in the construction of Africa's future. These discussions made it possible to address the ongoing institutional dynamics as well as the structural transformations which are shaping the orientations of the continent. The first session focused on the fifty-year experience of ECOWAS, new regional groupings such as the Alliance of Sahel States, developments in Somalia and Ethiopia, as well as the continuing crises in the Democratic Republic of Congo. These analyzes provided a detailed overview of the political and security situations influencing the regions of East, Central and West Africa today. The second session was devoted to Pan-Africanism within the framework of the United Nations, African summits and the growing role of the continent within the international system. The speakers assessed the way in which Africa seeks to redefine its position in a changing world and to strengthen its voice in global bodies.
